Discreet or decorative?

It comes down to what you want them to do. Discreet covers are about disappearing — matched to skin tone, smooth-edged, and shaped to hide the nipple under clothing. They're the bra-free answer for a backless or plunge outfit, and a comfier option than a strapless bra set under the right top. Some add a lift panel for a bit of support too.

Decorative pasties are the opposite — there to be seen. Hearts, X-shapes, tassels and rhinestone designs turn them into the outfit instead of hiding it, which is why they're a fixture at festivals and raves. For burlesque or dress-up looks, the costumes and roleplay range leans the same way. Same body part, completely different brief.

Adhesive, reuse and staying put

The backing decides how long they last. Single-use pasties and covers use a peel-and-stick adhesive for a single wear, then they're done. Reusable silicone ones are washable — rinse the adhesive after, let it dry, and the tack comes back for next time, often dozens of wears from one pair.

Either way, they only stick to clean, dry skin. Skip moisturiser, oil or fake tan beforehand, as anything on the surface stops them gripping. Press from the centre outwards to smooth out air, and peel slowly when taking them off — gently does it on sensitive skin. Stored flat in their backing, the reusable ones keep their stick far longer.
