Candles & Massage Oils
What to look for in candles and oils
Wax candles or massage candles
These look alike and behave nothing alike. A wax candle is made to burn cool — you light it, let a small pool form, then drip the warm wax onto the skin for gentle heat. The wax sets fast and peels off after. A massage candle isn't for dripping: it melts into a pool of low-heat oil you scoop out and rub in, doubling as a warm massage and a scent.
The safety point matters here. Both are made to melt at a low, skin-safe temperature — a normal household candle burns far too hot and will burn the skin, so never stand one in for the real thing. Drip from a sensible height the first few times until you know how it lands.
Warm wax on the skin pairs naturally with bondage gear for anyone leaning into heat and restraint together.
Choosing a massage oil
A massage oil keeps things simple — no flame, just a smooth glide for working over the back, shoulders or legs. The base is what counts: lighter blends like sweet almond or coconut sink in cleanly with no greasy film or staining on the sheets; heavier oils sit on top longer for slower work.
Scent is personal. Aromatherapy blends lean calming or warming, and unscented suits sensitive skin. If you want one that's safe to taste, check the label says edible — not all are.
One thing worth knowing: a massage oil is not a lubricant. Oil breaks down latex condoms and isn't meant for anything internal, so for that, reach for proper lube instead. Keep the oil for the skin and you're sorted.
